Marie moved to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia in 1992 to enjoy the natural beauty, outdoor recreation and celebrated history of Jefferson County. She has a Botany degree, and commuted to DC for many years to work for The Nature Conservancy International and National Wildlife Federation, with expertise in sustainable development, fundraising and ecotourism. She left a position with Appalachian Trail Conservancy in 2018, and is now a small business owner and volunteer. She has served on several local conservation boards, the Harpers Ferry Water Commission, and the Harpers Ferry/Bolivar Merchants Association Board. Having raised a son in Jefferson County she feels strongly the need to protect all our children from the toxic effects of heavy industry.
